SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 28

Recognizing the two hundredth anniversary of Brooke County, West Virginia.

Whereas, On May 23, 1797, the county court was created and a sheriff was appointed, therefore, recognizing Brooke as an independent county from the part of Ohio County from which it was formed.
Whereas, The new county was named in honor of Robert Brooke, governor of Virginia from 1794 to 1796.
Whereas, During its two hundred years of existence as a county of both Virginia and West Virginia, Brooke County has been ranked near the top in metal, steel and tin production. The 92.5 square miles of Brooke County also flourish with agriculture, coal and glass production.
Whereas, Brooke County is also home of the first Grimes Golden Apple tree, having been grown from the seed planted by John Chapman, also known as Johnny Appleseed; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate:
That the Senate hereby extends its sincere congratulations to the citizens of Brooke County, West Virginia, on the occasion of its two hundredth year as a county; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Senate extends its appreciation to the leaders, business community, educators, health care professionals and people of Brooke County for their remembrance of the past and their vision for the future; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the president and members of the Brooke County Commission.
